Covid 19’s hit us all hard. The ability to make decisions at speed and to be nimble in the moment is both a talent and gift for those able to do so. Holding the concept of keeping one’s business alive at the same we care for our team, our communities, and our families is not easy, to say the least. Perhaps holding all these issues is even overwhelming.

Here’s an action each of us can take in the moment and it costs nothing except a few minutes of time: Breathe. Exhale completely.

Now’s a time to be fully present. Ironically, the investment to be quiet and just breathe for a few minutes will pay off in clarity and calm. From clarity and calm, comes flow, from flow comes amazing energy and positive action.

How to breathe:

  1. Sit with your head, neck, and trunk erect, feet planted firmly on the floor.
  2. With your eyes closed or softly focused,
  3. Exhale completely… empty your lungs. Do so easily and slowly.
  4. Inhale slowly, at the same speed you exhale
  5. Exhale and inhale as slowly as you can.
    • Can you take 30 seconds for one complete breath? Can you take a full minute? Do it.
  6. As you continue to breathe full complete breaths, if a thought or concern shows up, simply focus your energy on the hollow of your upper lip, at the base of your nose.
  7. Continue to breathe long, even breaths.
  8. Do this for 3 minutes, 5 minutes, longer if you choose.
  9. When you choose to stop this breathing exercise, bring your palms to your eyes and gently open your eyes into the palms of your hands… track your hands back to your lap.
  10. Get on with your day and all you have to do! Now more present, focused and aware.
